Budget 2009 Cash-For-Scrap
Update:
28 September 2009
The Government have announced that the srappage scheme is to be extended to include an additional 100,000 new cars and vans.
The Chancellor of the Exchequer, Alistair Darling, announced in his budget speech that the UK government have introduced a cash-for-scrap car scheme.
Under the scheme a car or LCV (light commercial vehicle under 3,500kg) over 10 years old can be part-exchanged for a value of £2000 with a dealer for scrapping when buying a new car or LCV. £1000 will be contributed by the government with the other £1000 coming from the supplying dealer or manufacturer.
The scheme will run from mid May 2009 to March 2010 and is a voluntary scheme so not all dealers or manufacturers may be participating. Please check with the dealer supplying your new vehicle to see if they are participating in the scheme.
Main points of the scheme
The vehicle you are scrapping must:
- be a car or LCV
- have been first registered in the UK before 31st July 1999
- have been registered in your name, at a UK address, for 12 continuous months prior to the date of your new vehicle order
- have an MOT certificate before the order date of the new vehicle
Your new vehicle must:
- be a new car or LCV
- be first registered after the launch of the scheme (mid May) to the same individual as the car being scrapped with no former keepers
- be a UK specification vehicle
