2016 sees BMW success

The BMW Group has seen strong sales over the past 12 months for both its BMW and Mini vehicles.

In 2016, a total of 251,577 BMW and Mini units were registered – 8.9 per cent higher than in 2015.

Mini performed particularly well, with an 8.5 per cent increase, which resulted in the highest annual sales performance since the model was launched in 2001.

BMW has also seen a strong rise in demand for electric and hybrid models, with 9,000 new registrations of eco-friendly options.

The top seller for BMW remained the BMW 1 Series five-door, followed by the 3 Series Saloon and the 5 Series Saloon.

Graeme Grieve, chief executive officer of BMW Group UK, said: "BMW Group had a tremendous year in 2016 breaking records with both its BMW and Mini brands in the UK, with sales exceeding 250,000 vehicles for the first time and establishing BMW as the leading premium brand in the UK."

He added: "Our results have been driven by strong growth from the corporate sector where we have increased sales of both brands.

"These results are testament to the strong partnership we have with our UK retailer network. BMW and MINI retailers have invested £121 million in modern, customer-friendly retail and service facilities during the past year."
