Cheshire drivers ‘most informed’ about tyre safety

Cheshire’s drivers could soon become the most informed motorists surrounding tyre safety.

Cheshire’s police force has decided to become a supporter of TyreSafe, meaning drivers from the county will soon win a place among the most informed regarding the issue of tyre safety.

The announcement comes after Cheshire’s Fire and Rescue Service won an accolade from the industry body – one of the UK's leading tyre safety organisations – because of the work it had undertaken to raise awareness about this particular vehicle safety issue.

In response to the police force’s decision, Stuart Jackson, chairman of TyreSafe, commented: “We are delighted to welcome Cheshire Police on board and look forward to developing some highly effective initiatives with them.

“With a number of major roads passing through the country, it’s important that local drivers properly understand their individual responsibilities about tyre care and take appropriate action. I’m sure that the assistance of the local police force will help this greatly.”

Cheshire’s police force is not the only organisation supporting TyreSafe, with many other emergency services, road safety professionals and local councils showing interest. The collaborative efforts of these advocates is helping to add authenticity and weight to the group’s campaigning activities.

Police forces from across the country have hosted several events to raise awareness of tyre safety, including supermarket car park checks and a survey at Gatwick airport and have arranged campaign branding to be featured on Eddie Stobart trucks.

Richard Hill, inspector for Operational Roads Policing at Cheshire police, believes tyre safety is a vital component of the overall health of a vehicle. He added that the force is delighted to be working in partnership with TyreSafe to offer drivers an education in this issue. The police will now be enforcing legislation that covers a vehicle’s tyres more robustly.

The collaboration will see Cheshire police start tyre safety awareness activities during busy periods of travelling, such as the summer holidays. The force has also agreed to fully support tyre safety month, which starts October 1st.
