Dramatic launch for new Jaguar

Jaguar plans for EV expansion

The latest Jaguar model made a rather dramatic appearance for its special launch in London.

In a James Bond-style stunt, the new XF compact sports saloon crossed over London's Canary Wharf Royal Dock area on a special "high-wire" drive.

The event was overseen by top stuntman Jim Dowdell, who has worked on a number of high-action movies, including the Bond and Bourne series.

In order to demonstrate the car's advanced handling, he drove the car a distance of 240 metres on wires just over an inch wide.

A Jaguar spokesman explained: "The dramatic drive across two 34mm-diameter wires suspended high above water, highlights the lightweight and agile credentials of the new XF."

The XF is aimed at current buyers of other luxury brands such as BMW and Mercedes-Benz, and has been developed with a higher level of comfort inside, despite being 80 kgs lighter than its closest competitor models.

All of the engines for the new model are to be built at Jaguar Land Rover's Castle Bromwich factory in Birmingham. Options include a new 2.0 litre 163 bhp Ingenium diesel, as well as a 380 bhpV6 supercharged petrol engine.

It is expected the car will be on general sale by the end of the year and will make its official world debut at the forthcoming New York Motor Show next month.
