DVLA registration auction aimed at women

The Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency will hold an auction for personalised plates resembling women’s names.

The Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency (DVLA) has announced it will be hosting an auction of personalised registration plates designed to resemble women’s names, meaning those that have been looking for something that emulates their moniker may be in luck.

Starting from Wednesday September 24th, over 1,500 number plates will be sold over three days at the Twickenham rugby stadium.

Currently, CO11 EEN holds the title of most expensive registration resembling a woman’s name, with an enthusiastic bidder paying a staggering £38,000 for plate, but this could change in 2014.

There are several registration in this year’s auction that could usurp CO11 EEN, including CA12 RLA, CH10 LOE, and RE63 KAH – all of which have been allocated reserves of £900. There are plenty of others that could take the crown, such as 5X, JOY 1W, KYM 1H, LOL 4N,
LOL 4R and VER 2A.

The DVLA have also included a few personalised registrations for male bidders, including some that would suit any Adrians, Grahams or Steves: ADR 214N, GR14 HAM and ST11 EVE – available with reserves of £400, £1,000 and £900 respectively.

Jody Davies, DVLA personalised registrations’ events manager, said: “There’s no denying it that personalised registrations have always been popular with the ladies and next week’s sale will be no exception with the line up of lots we have put together.

“We were overjoyed at the interest surrounding CO11 EEN and, with the way events are shaping up, next week’s sale at Twickenham looks equally as exciting.”

The DVLA – which has been selling personalised registrations for 25 years – has held three auctions so far in 2014, raising over £10.4 million from the sales.

Ms Davies described said this year has been particularly successful for the registration auction programme, with the money generated from high-value and low-reserve plates adding up to a “phenomenal” sum.

According to the DVLA, the 1,500 number plates up for grabs on September 24th have been chosen to suit different tastes, styles and budgets, with reserves ranging from £400 to £3,000.
