Electric Smart versions planned for Paris reveal

Smart is set to reveal electric versions of its new Fortwo, Fortwo cabrio and Forfour at the Paris Motor Show.

Making use of Smart Electric Drive, the cars will have up to a 100-mile range and will take around 45 minutes to charge.

The battery pack is mounted under the floor of the boot in the same location as the standard Smart’s petrol engine.

It is anticipated the electric motor will enable the hard-top Fortwo from 0 to 62mph in 11.5 seconds, and the Forfour in 12.7 seconds, with a top speed for all vehicles of 81 mph.

No official pricing of the new models has been released, but further details are expected to be forthcoming at the Paris show.
