Ford and Vauxhall popular among fleet managers and private owners

Both fleet operators and private owners rate Ford and Vauxhall for work and play

Ford and Vauxhall are among the most popular company cars, according to a new report by Sewells Research.

The
fleet operator's Attitudes Survey questioned 2,050 fleet decision makers across the UK about what cars were most popular and the factors they took into account when providing vehicles for staff.

According to the statistics, while many employees are requesting so-called prestige motors, fleet managers have to try and balance this against budget constraints.

Simon Staplehurst, commercial manager at Sewells Research, said: "This is why Ford and Vauxhall continue to be major heavyweights when it comes to fleet, claiming almost a fifth of the votes combined when it comes to the most desirable cars."

Ford came second place in terms of car manufacturers that are most desirable to employees, with 14 per cent of the vote, and Vauxhall was in sixth place, with five per cent of the vote.

The survey suggested that employees do have a significant influence on their companies when it comes to decisions about company cars.

Nearly half (40 per cent) of fleet decision makers refer to staff about what marques they prefer and take that into account when putting in orders.

Last week (October 10th), Auto Express listed the ten bestselling cars of 2014 so far. Ford took first and second place in the list, with Vauxhall coming in third.

The Ford Fiesta topped the poll, with close to 106,930 registrations this year so far. This makes it the top selling supermini.

According to Auto Express, it hits the mark with consumers because it is able to "tick the practicality and economy boxes that are so crucial for any small car but it's also a blast to drive".

The Ford Focus made it into second place on the list with 67,015 registrations in 2014. The motoring website suggests it gained this position thanks to being large enough for families, but with relatively low running costs and a "first class" driving experience.

Vauxhall's Corsa is in third place and not far behind in terms of registrations with 62,693 this year so far.
