Ford expands market lead in February

It seems we can't get enough of Ford's new car deals here in the UK.

The manufacturer has built on its lead by accelerating its sales momentum in the early months of 2014.

Results from the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders show Ford both stretched its market lead and increased total vehicle sales and share during February.

It means Ford is now top of lists for overall, car and commercial vehicle sales in the UK, with the Fiesta and Focus remaining in their positions as the number one and two best-selling cars. The Ford Fiesta continued to sell well last month, with 4,415 registrations – an increase from the 3,655 recorded in February 2013.

Overall in February, the automaker's car sales shot up three per cent with 68,736 units being sold – 9,935 more than the same month last year.

Also during February, Ford's car sales share grew significantly to 15.3 per cent, a 1.6 percentage point increase over February 2013,
and the company's lead over its competitors in total vehicle sales has increased by more than 80 per cent for the year to date.

Mark Ovenden, chairman and managing director of Ford Britain, said: "Ford's fast sales start to 2014 is solidly based on growth in the more profitable retail and net fleet sectors and is a result of our continued investment in exciting products and industry-leading technologies, delivered through the strongest dealer network in the UK."

He explained car buyers are already choosing a new Ford deal over offers from other manufacturers and with the addition of new products, such as the new Focus, Mondeo and Transit, the company will continue to appeal for months and years to come.
