Ford picks up top award

Ford has been named as the Most Innovative Brand at the recent AutomotiveINNOVATIONS awards.

The car maker won with its new Mondeo model, which was praised for its safety features and semi-autonomous driver assistance technology including Active Park Assist and Active City Stop.

A total of 53 brands entered the competition which celebrates automotive engineering innovation and is organised by the Centre of Automotive Management.

The judges were particularly impressed by Ford's Active Park Assist which helps motorists to park alongside other cars and in tight parallel parking spaces.

"Innovation has always been the lifeblood of Ford and it's more vital with the automotive industry entering a period of rapid technological advancement," explained Joe Bakaj, vice-president of product development at Ford of Europe.

"The technologies we are introducing today are enabling a safer, more efficient and more connected journey."

Professor Dr Stefan Bratzel, head of the judging panel, said driver assistance systems are now a major part of automotive engineering.

He added: "The award for Ford as Most Innovative Volume Manufacturer proves the innovative power of the brand. With Focus and Mondeo, many of the innovations have already found their way into production."
