Ford sees record start to 2017

Ford sold more than 30,000 units in January as the automaker leads the UK market.

The company saw a 7.4 per cent rise is sales at the start of the year leading to the highest January sales since 1990 and now have a 35.8 per cent share of market share.

Ford’s top seller was the Fiesta, with demand also strong for the C-MAX and Ranger.

Andy Barratt, Ford of Britain chairman and managing director, said: “In January more than 30,000 UK car and van drivers picked up new Fords, delivering 15 per cent of the market – our highest share in two and a half years.

“Having enjoyed our biggest January volume since 1990, we’re now looking at another sales peak to come in March.
With the Vehicle Excise Duty – or road tax – system changing significantly from April, we anticipate another strong month as buyers move fast to avoid the tax increase.”

Sales from the SMMT show January car sales as a whole were up by 2.9 per cent compared to January 2015.
