Easy Fuel is fitted as standard to all of the best-selling Fiesta, Focus and Mondeo models and prevents motorists from misfuelling their car, but it also makes siphoning petrol out of the tank extremely difficult.
The Easy Fuel system adds extra security behind the external fuel filling opening, which is additionally secured by the car's central locking.
This is particularly important at a time when rising fuel costs are driving many individuals to break the law and steal petrol and diesel from other people's cars. Around 4,500 incidences occurred last year, which is 25 per cent up on the year before.
Misfuelling is prevented by an inhibitor stopping the latches from releasing if the Easy Fuel system detects an incorrect nozzle placed into the petrol tank opening.
