Fuel shortage hits holidaymakers

Many Brits planning to travel to France on holiday are being warned about the country’s fuel shortage.

Both the AA and the RAC are urging travellers to fill up their tanks before heading across the channel because action by French workers is causing supply shortages in many stations across north France.

The AA’s international travel spokeswoman, Rosie Sanderson, explained people need to make sure they stay on top of the situation and keep their eye on the fuel gauge.

"The dispute doesn’t mean that all fuel stations will find their supplies exhausted, but I’d suggest that drivers keep topping up their tanks when they can rather than risk running out."

She added: "The only silver lining might be that there may be less traffic thanks to the dispute, meaning fewer traffic jams."

Meanwhile, RAC’s fuel spokesman, Simon Williams, confirmed it had been called to help a number of members who had run out of fuel.
