Future VW Polo set to be larger

The future Volkswagen Polo is set to be larger and lighter, according to industry insiders.

It is expected the Polo will be available as a five-door model and will rival the popular Ford Fiesta.

VW are also set to introduce a GTI model that will have an updated version of 1.8-litre TSI engine and will offer an improved 189 bhp and 236lb ft of torque. It may also boast more standard performance parts along similar lines to the Ibiza Cupra.

The 2017 Polo will be based on the MQB A0 chassis that is shared by many of the compact cars produced by VW, as well as the Audi A1, Seat Ibiza and Skoda Fabia.

Each Polo will also have various high-tech options include driver assist functions and reversing cameras.
