Googles plans more in-car tech

Google has confirmed its Android in-car system will feature greater control of a car’s operation.

The next version of the Android Auto system could oversee air-conditioning, as well as other vehicle functions such as heated seats, electric windows and the door locking devices.

Users of the Android system can already control basic functions including music and sat-nav features, but the improvements could be a step towards Google moving into controlling other crucial on-board features such as braking.

Google is already working with mobile technology company Qualcomm on a
joint project using a Maserati Ghibli as its test car.

Meanwhile BMW, Mercedes-Benz and Audi are working on a Nokia system that could eventually be implemented in their future models.
