Is the Ford Fiesta the perfect car for a newly qualified driver?

The Ford Fiesta is reliable and cheap to run, meaning it could be the perfect car for a newly qualified driver.

Looking for a suitable car when you’ve just passed your driving test can be daunting, as you want to find something that is reasonably priced, inexpensive to run, not too powerful and cheap to insure, as premiums for newly-qualified drivers can be high.

Tiff Needell, presenter of Channel 5’s Fifth Gear, recommends that new drivers avoid buying a car with an engine size any bigger than 1.4 litres, vehicles with more than five seats and hot hatches or sport editions.

Following this advice will ensure a recently qualified driver can buy a quality car, while keeping running costs low.

The Ford Fiesta is able to tick all these boxes and more, and there are thousands of different cars to choose from under this umbrella name. Whether you select a brand new model or a quality used one, the Fiesta is the perfect car for first-time drivers, perfectly combining style and reliability.

This year, the Fiesta became the best-selling vehicle in the history of the UK car market, with 4.2 million sales recorded

So, why should a newly-qualified driver invest in a Ford Fiesta?

Cheap to insure

Even if you’re over 25, insuring a car as new driver can often be costly. Just ask 27-year-old Mancunian Rhys Barker, who was quoted an astonishing £1.2 million to insure his ten-year-old Vauxhall Corsa – a sum that would have set him back £104,000 per month!

Before purchasing a car, you should always have a look around to see what the insurance might cost, which will help you avoid buying a car that you cannot afford to insure. One vehicle that should generate reasonable quotes is the Ford Fiesta.

Some Fiesta models fall into the lowest category for car insurance prices, but obviously high-spec versions will cost more. However, some top-spec Fiestas can often cost less to insure than some basic cars, such as Renault Clios and Citroen Saxos.

Plenty of choice

Ford has a proven track record of making quality small cars and the Fiesta is no exception. As this vehicle first appeared on the market in 1976, there are many good value used cars available, as well as brand new models. This means newly qualified drivers are spoilt for choice when looking for a Fiesta.

You could choose a sixth generation model, which is any Fiesta with a 2001 to 2009 registration plate, for its tidy design and spacious interior. Or, you could invest in the latest generation, 2013 and onwards, for its good looks and sporty performance.

All Fiestas are reliable, comfortable and affordable, so no matter which model you choose, you can rest assured that you’re making a sound investment.

Low running costs

The initial outlay isn’t the only cost that needs to be considered when purchasing a new car, as there are additional charges attached to the everyday running, such as filling it with petrol and annual car tax.

One of the biggest advantages of buying a Fiesta is that you can purchase a car that has loads of features, such as air-conditioning and alloys, but is also to cheap to run.

There are a wide range of economical petrol and excellent diesel engines available, meaning the car won’t guzzle fuel and spare parts are very cheap, so if anything needs fixing or replacing it won’t break the bank.
