Never forget where you’ve parked again with new app

Apple will soon be releasing an app that could help forgetful drivers find where they’ve parked their car.

Have you ever walked out of a supermarket, stared blankly at the carpark then realised you can’t remember where you’ve parked your motor? Apple have a solution in the works that will stop the stomach-churning panic setting in.

The Cupertino-based firm is in the process of designing an app that will let a person find their car, without the need for an internet connection, meaning it will work even when the vehicle is parked in an underground facility, according to Apple Insider.

Apple’s plans came to light in a series of patent applications to the US Patent and Trademark Office, which reveal that the software will be able to accurately locate the vehicle using its own connectivity, rather than going through the web.

The website suggests the app isn’t entirely unique, as Google offers a similar service currently. Apple’s version will be intelligent enough to recognise when the driver is using the car and is able to work out when it has been stopped, as well as register the driver exiting the vehicle.

A pin is then added to the map to mark where the car is located, allowing the driver to easily find it again when they return to it. The app even provides the user with directions, just in case they need them.

However, Apple’s app has one defining factor that sets it apart from Google’s service, the software does not need to use the internet. Instead, it can connect to the car via Bluetooth. This means the service is useable even if the vehicle is parked in the dark underbelly of an underground carpark.

The app is part of a new ‘Car Play’ scheme, which Apple hopes will make it’s technology and cars more connected than ever before. As of yet, the release date of the software is unknown, but it is likely to be a hit with those that often forget where they’ve parked.
