Take a look at the new 2015 hatchbacks

Stylish, compact, efficient and sometimes even downright cute, hatchbacks are a great choice for anyone looking to buy a new car. They're especially popular for families, as they can be economical and they make great use of the space available – that fifth door makes it easy to pack up that bulky pram and all those toys.

If you're thinking of buying a hatchback, there are plenty of options to choose from – and the 2015 models have plenty to offer buyers.

Hyundai i20

With an all new look this year, the Hyundai i20 is a small hatchback that has been refined to keep up with the latest trends in city cars.

Small touches like the blacked-out C-pillar (the one that holds the sides of the rear window in place) give the vehicle a stylish look – and it's more spacious than previous models too. There's more room for passengers, the boot is an impressive 326 litres and its legroom has been called best in class.

Volkswagon Polo GTI

This zippy little car may not be quite as popular as its big brother, the Volkswagon Golf, but it's a good looking motor that goes from 0-62mph in just 6.7 seconds.

It's also efficient, with its 1.80 litre, four-cylinder turbo TSI engine getting more than 47mpg. Looks havent' been forgotten on this hatchback either – the car comes with 17-inch two-tone alloys, LED lights and tartan seat trim as standard. Or, opt for the Sport pack, which includes adjustable stability control system, enhanced throttle response and dynamic chassis controls.

Ford Fiesta

Named the UK's best-selling car of all time, the Ford Fiesta must have been doing something right for all these years. The latest model has had an up date to its technology – both under the bonnet and inside.

Stream music using a USB cable to connect your favourite device or wirelessly with Bluetooth connectivity. SYNC reads text messages aloud to you with pre-selected voice commands, so you can keep in touch without taking your eyes off the road.

The car is also extremely efficient, with the award-winning 1.0 EcoBoost petrol engine bringing fuel efficiency up to 65.7mpg.

Kia Rio

Available in three- or five-door options, this is one of the most spacious cars in the small hatchback class. Its boot measures 288 litres and folding rear seats mean there's even more space to pack things in, whether you've been on a shopping spree or are moving house.

The car has also had a bit of a facelift, with new bumpers, glossy black trim, an electronic stability kit and DAB radio. Some models also include a seven-inch touchscreen satellite navigation system.

Vauxhall Viva

The last model of Vauxhall Viva was produced in the 1970s and it's fair to say the 2015 version bears no resemblance to its predecessor. It's now available with four or five doors and comes with a 1.0 litre EcoTec 74bhp engine.

As the cheapest car in Vauxhall's range, prices start at around £7,000. While it might not come with as many bells as whistles as some of the other cars in its class, it certainly offers value for money.
