Volkswagen plans new Caddy

Volkswagen has revealed details of its new Caddy to be launched later in the year.

The fourth-generation of the popular commercial vehicle will be available towards the middle of the year and has undergone a makeover.

New features on the outside include revamped head and tail lights, as well as a redesigned tailgate and side panels. Buyers opting for the passenger model will also have the choice of tinted rear windows.

In terms of engine, there will be a new 2.0 litre four-cylinder diesel unit in three different power outputs offering 74bhp, 101bhp or 148bhp.

Eco-friendly drivers may be attracted by the Caddy Bluemotion model, which could offer more than 70 mpg.

Additional extras include Light Assist and Driver Alert systems, adaptive cruise control, a reversing camera, Park Assist and an automated parking system.

The new Caddy will go on sale in Germany in June and is expected to arrive in UK showrooms shortly after, although pricing has not yet been confirmed.

Volkswagen sold more than 1.5 million of the third-generation model and it is expected the latest version will become a firm favourite.

However, the Caddy's main rival, the Ford Transit Connect is also getting a revamp this year, with a complete redesign and the introduction of a number of Euro 6 compliant engines.
