Nissan finds Brits in favour of ULEZ charges
The first charges for driving in Ultra-Low Emission Zones (ULEZ) were implemented in London this week – but rather than being opposed to another levy on motorists, the majority of Britons are behind the change.
This is the discovery of research carried out by Nissan, which polled 2,000 people across the UK and found that almost half support the introduction of a daily charge for high-polluting vehicles.
Some 35 per cent of those living outside London also said they thought their nearest city would benefit from an ULEZ, with 31 per cent stating this would alter how they drive and 27 per cent reporting it would make them more likely to buy an electric vehicle.
Out of those willing to consider an electric car, around 60 per cent said it would be to benefit the environment and just over 40 per cent cited financial incentives.
Andrew Sellars from Nissan commented: "As the UK continues to implement its Road to Zero strategy – which will see at least half of all new cars sold being ultra-low emission models by 2030 – UK citizens are taking a more active interest in the benefits of electric vehicles, which contribute strongly to improving air quality in city centres."
