No-one has ever been killed in a Volvo XC90

If safety is your highest priority when shopping for a new car, look no further than the Volvo XC90.

New figures have revealed that no driver or passenger fatalities have ever been recorded in the Swedish SUV since records began back in 2004.

The Volvo XC90 was already considered to be one of the safest cars available before Thatcham Research published these figures. Volvo has long been renowned for its focus on safety, and crash test assessment body Euro NCAP gave the second-generation XC90 a five-star rating when it was released in 2015.

Speaking to Auto Express, Thatcham’s director of research Matthew Avery said: “Often when a vehicle is new, you don’t see fatalities, as it takes time for models to build up sales numbers.

“But we have around 14 years’ history of the XC90 and that stands out. In terms of people being killed, I can’t see any.”

The current XC90 includes radars and other technology designed to avoid collisions from occurring in the first place.
