Regent Street Motor Show helps historic thoroughfare mark 200 years

If you love a good car-themed event, then you'll know the Regent Street Motor Show in London has become a must-see. However, it's set to be even more special for 2019, as Regent Street itself will be marking its 200th anniversary.

The British Prince Regent lent his name to a new purpose-built shopping street in 1819, and that street has since become a world-famous tourist destination.

For 2019, a host of celebrations are planned – but we know the Illinois Route 66 Regent Street Motor Show (to give it its full title) on November 2nd will be a highlight for petrolheads.

The event will feature a mixture of motoring from the past, the present and the future, with the past represented by more than 100 pre-1905 vehicles taking part in the annual Veteran Car Concours d'Elegance.

Attendees will be able to take in contemporary cars from a host of different brands we're familiar with today, while there will also be a nod to the future as industry experts predict what type of innovative vehicles we might be driving in another 200 years.

Chairman of the Royal Automobile Club Ben Cussons said: "Putting the spotlight on the timeline of the automobile, the Regent Street Motor Show is now one of this country's top motoring spectacles. We are delighted to welcome back Illinois Route 66 as headline partner, and with Regent Street itself celebrating, this year's show will take on added significance."

Indeed, this will be the third year of partnership with Illinois Route 66 and the state's spokesperson for the Office of Tourism Jan Kemmerling said she is looking forward to convincing UK car enthusiasts to take a trip on America's most famous highway.

You can find the motor show on Regent Street on Saturday November 2nd from 10:30 until 16:00 GMT, with the road closed to ordinary traffic from Piccadilly to Oxford Circus for the duration of the event.

Further details on attendees will be released as the show date approaches.
