SEAT shows off SUVs on streets of Barcelona

SEAT has celebrated its SUV offering by taking all three models in the range – the Ateca, Arona and Tarraco – out on the streets of Barcelona, the city where they were designed and conceived.

The event marked the first time the three cars had been displayed together in their home city.

Back in 2016, the Ateca was the first entry into the manufacturer's SUV range, followed by the Arona in 2017 and the Tarraco last year.

When the Ateca was first unveiled, SEAT's executive committee chairman Luca de Meo said the car was due to play "a key role in our new brand strategy", adding that it was "kick-starting the largest product offensive in the history of SEAT".

More than two years on, his promise has been fulfilled with the Arona and Tarraco now available to drivers. The Tarraco is defined by its spaciousness, offering up to seven seats and boot capacity of up to 1,920 litres with the rear seats folded.

Looking at the range as a whole, SEAT noted that the models are united by their creative heritage in Barcelona, with design director Alejandro Mesonero-Romanos saying: "All three could only have been created in this city."

Individually, the Arona was singled out for its "strong crossover character, with 68 possible colour combinations", the Ateca for its "elegant silhouette" and the Tarraco for the design of its front end, which "points to what future SEAT models will look like".

Design is the deciding factor for 65 per cent of customers who purchase an SUV, according to SEAT.

However, safety is also a major priority, as reflected in features such as traffic jam assist, lane assist, adaptive cruise control and emergency braking in the Ateca, Arona and Tarraco.

These cars could become an increasingly common sight on roads across Europe in the coming years, with SUV sales expected to grow by 40 per cent by 2025.
