Third-gen Picanto launches in UK

The third generation of Kia's popular city car, the Picanto, has arrived in the UK.

Buyers can choose from nine different versions, with two engine options, two transmissions and five levels of trim. Prices on the road start from £9,450 for the budget car, that has increased its appeal in the country in recent years.

Before the end of 2017, Kia has confirmed plans for a 1.0-litre T-GDI turbocharged engine to be added to the line-up for those looking for a sporty urban drive.

All of the models will be five-door, as the automaker confirmed demand for three-door vehicles has declined substantially in the European market.

The third-generation mode remains the same size as its predecessor, but internal changes means there is increased luggage and passenger space.

Other changes include the addition of safety measures from the entry-level grade 1 to the top of the range GT-Line S. All of the Picantos have Electronic Stability Control (ESC), Vehicle Stability Management (VSM), Hill-start Assist Control (HAC) and six airbags.

There are also various paint finishes to choose from, including Silver Frost, Titanium Silver, Midnight Black, Chilli Red and Pop Orange.
