Used car buyers want pick-up trucks in 2018

2022 new Ford Ranger pick-up truck

Interest in pick-up trucks has, err, picked up considerably in recent times as Brits realise the benefits and versatility of models like the Nissan Navara and Mitsubishi L200.

We’ve now reached a point where pick-ups make up almost half of the top ten most desirable models.

The list, published by Car Gurus, analysed the number of shoppers searching for every model with at least 1,000 cars for sale since the start of the year to create a ‘desirability score’.

This figure was then used to determine the most in-demand models for 2018 so far.

Four of those models were pick-up trucks, with the Ford Ranger topping the list with a desirability score of 66.

Britain’s obsession with pick-ups was further highlighted as the Toyota Hilux ranked sixth (34), followed by the Nissan Navara (seventh – 33) and Mitsubishi L200 just sneaking in at tenth (27).

A spokesman for CarGurus – which specialises in used cars – said: “When we’re buying our next car, we naturally consider the practicalities of the vehicle and search for the model that best fits our needs, but what if there were no restrictions?

“The CarGurus desirability score is the automotive equivalent of window shopping – it shows the models we are most curious about or desire, even if our circumstances make a purchase unrealistic."

Of course, this list focuses on used cars, but it offers a curious insight into how much the new and second-hand market differ, with not a single model – nor pick-up – appearing both the CarGurus list and Cars2Buy.co.uk’s top ten most searched.
