Volkswagen continues to boost UK market share

Volkswagen is now the second-biggest car brand in the UK, as the company continues to grow in popularity in the UK.

Despite a general fall in car sales in the country, VW has seen a 0.69 per cent increase in its share of the UK’s new car market over the past 12 months.

Figures from the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT) show VW enjoyed a 10.06 per cent share of all new car sales in December. In particular, the automaker has benefited from strong sales of its Tiguan and Polo ranges, although the Golf remains the top seller –
with the model becoming the best-selling vehicle of its type in the UK for the first time.

This growth means Volkswagen is now the second biggest car brand in the UK with a market share of 8.21 per cent.

The coming year will saw VW release a number of new models, including a long wheelbase of its Tiguan and a further expansion of the new T-Roc line-up.

Alison Jones, director of Volkswagen UK, said: “Against the backdrop of a declining market, Volkswagen performed strongly in the UK during 2017. We have the right products for UK customers – particularly now that our growing SUV range has been bolstered by the new T-Roc – and our Retailer Network continues to offer ever-improving levels of already-high customer satisfaction.

“We are determined to continue this positive momentum into 2018 and beyond.”
