VW launches new Scirocco GTS

The new Scirocco GTS has been launched to complement the existing Scirocco R and GT.

With full details released at the Shanghai Motor Show, Volkswagen is hoping it will replicate the success of the Golf GTI and its predecessor.

In terms of engine, there is a 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder that creates 220 PS (217 bhp). This means the car is capable of 0 to 62 mph in 6.5 seconds and has a top speed of 150 mph.

The Scirocco GTS will have a number of optional extras including 19-inch Lugano alloys, a GTS bonnet stripe and an R-Line bodystyling kit.

Inside, drivers will discover a black and red colour scheme, compete with black lacquer on the dashboard and red seams on the handbrake lever, armrests and floor mats.

Other upgrades available include a multifunction steering wheel, full tilt sunroof, bi-xenon headlights, in-car radio navigation system and black leather upholstery.

Buyers will be able to choose from six different colours – black, white, red, Indium grey and Urano grey.

With the six-speed manual model, the car will offer around 46 mpg, with the six-speed DSG offering 41 mpg.

The car will hit showrooms next month, however, there is no official confirmation of price yet.
