CBI calls for more energy-efficient driving

Environmentally-conscious drivers who are looking for good Ford deals have been handed a few tips on how they can help the planet.

According to business group the CBI, more than a quarter of Britain’s greenhouse gases come from personal transport such as cars.

As a result, it believes that if people make small changes to the way they drive, they could reduce their carbon emissions and save hundreds of pounds in the process.

Dr Neil Bentley, director of business environment at the CBI, commented: "Simply changing gears more smoothly to avoid sharp breaking and acceleration can reduce fuel consumption by a third."

He suggested that energy-efficient driving techniques should be made a mandatory part of the driving test, as this could go a long way towards changing the behaviour of motorists and cutting carbon emissions.

A car’s green credentials are increasingly being used by manufacturers as major selling points to attract buyers.

Ford, for example, recently hailed its Fiesta for its strong but lightweight body shell, as this has helped to reduce fuel consumption and CO2 emissions across the Fiesta range.
