Around five per cent of motorists are running the risk of being thrown forward or through the windscreen in an emergency stop situation as they not fastening their seatbelt.<\/p>\n

The AA's Streetwatcher volunteers have been observing junctions and roundabouts across the UK and logging 40,000 vehicles.<\/p>\n

During the survey around one in 20 (4.92 per cent) drivers were found not to be wearing their seatbelt.<\/p>\n

The survey also noted a range of other dangerous and illegal behaviour while driving as 3.6 per of vehicles had a brake light out and 9.57 per cent of drivers approached a junction too quickly.<\/p>\n

Edmund King, the AA President, said: "Perhaps the biggest worry is that one in ten drivers was observed to be going too fast at junctions."<\/p>\n

One area where drivers seem to be obeying the law is the use of hand-held mobile phones as just 0.23 per cent of motorists were spotted talking or texting while driving.<\/p>\n
