Gocompare noted the third month of the year tends to be a very busy period for this type of activity – and has recommended drivers think long and hard about whether or not they allow their insurers to automatically rollover their policy.<\/p>\n
With so many people looking to update their agreements, the price comparison website has recommended they shop around in order to get the best deal that suits their individual circumstances.<\/p>\n
Research carried out by the organisation revealed motorists who sit back and watch as their provider automatically continues along the same tracks with their cover could stand to miss out on collective savings to the tune of £2.55 billion.<\/p>\n
Gocompare advised allowing this to happen should be discouraged at the moment in particular, claiming the upheaval in the industry caused by the recent implementation of the European Gender ruling makes now a bad time to permit auto renewal to take place.<\/p>\n
According to new findings from the group, 8.7 per cent of drivers in the UK automatically renewed their car insurance policy last time round, with 29 per cent of these individuals claiming that because the deal offered by their insurer was the cheapest option on that occasion, it is likely to be a similar situation this time.<\/p>\n
A further 28 per cent of survey respondents admitted to auto renewing their arrangement because they felt they had to out of a sense of loyalty for the provider, while 15 per cent said they simply did not have the spare time in order to look for a more competitive price.<\/p>\n
Scott Kelly, head of motor services at Gocompare, said: "Drivers who allow their car insurance policies to auto-renew and expect to get the best deal are kidding themselves.<\/p>\n
"Renewal documents often start by explaining that you don't need to do anything for your cover to continue.<\/p>\n
"Unfortunately, they don't explain that doing nothing is the worst thing to do if you want to be sure you're getting the most competitive premium and still have the cover you need."<\/p>\n
Mr Kelly explained the introduction of the EU gender ruling has meant providers are wringing the changes with regard to the policies they offer, so it is particularly important this year that customers shop around for the deal that is best suited to their needs and circumstances.<\/p>\n
By comparing renewal premiums against quotes from insurers competing for their custom, those looking for a better deal this March could be in luck.<\/p>\n
Mr Kelly explained the process of auto renew usually stands to benefit insurers more than it does drivers.<\/p>\n
He added that although it may seem like an inconvenience, "spending a few minutes comparing premiums and cover levels from numerous providers could save you hundreds of pounds a year".<\/p>\n
Indeed, Gocompare revealed that 51 per cent of its customers who used the service to locate a better deal were able to make savings worth £293.54 on their car insurance, while the findings also revealed ten per cent of motorists in the UK have been with their current insurer for at least a decade.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
