Nissan has announced that it has made its 100,000th delivery of the electric vehicle, with the buyer being Brett Garner, a Briton based in Hampshire.<\/p>\n<p>So far, the Leaf has been a considerable success, proving to be the most popular electric car in the world. Aside from its emission-free drivetrain, other benefits of the model include its smartphone interconnectivity and various advanced features.<\/p>\n<p>To celebrate the latest achievement, Nissan has produced a unique version of the car that comes decorated with 50,000 two pence pieces from the UK and 50,000 two cent Euro coins from the continent.<\/p>\n<p>These coins represent the low running expenses associated of the Leaf, which can be operated at just 2p per mile, or less than &euro;0.02 per kilometre.<\/p>\n<p>People can see the coin-covered Leaf on display at Martins of Winchester, the Nissan dealer that sold the actual 100,000th car to Mr Garner.<\/p>\n<p>Guillaume Cartier, senior vice-president for sales and marketing at Nissan Europe, said the popularity of the car is likely to grow even more as electric vehicles become an increasingly viable mainstream technology.<\/p>\n<p>He said: &quot;Don&#39;t forget that when Nissan Leaf was launched in 2010, the charging infrastructure was in its infancy.<\/p>\n<p>&quot;But that didn&#39;t deter the pioneers who immediately appreciated the benefits of a purpose-designed electric vehicle. Three years on, many are already on their second Nissan Leaf.&quot;<\/p>\n<p>This comes after the manufacturer racked up its 3,000th Nissan leaf sale in the UK last month, confirming its position as the most successful brand of electric car in Britain.
