The engine will always fire up – even on a cold winter morning, the electronics will not fail you, and the tyres are perfectly inflated and free from any wear.<\/p>\n
However, if you are still looking for a new car, or making do with an older one, you have to take these issues seriously, especially the quality of your tyres.<\/p>\n
The rubber is the only part of your vehicle that actually touches the road, so you want it to be in good condition. Even if you have bought 'new' tyres for your old car, you could still be at risk.<\/p>\n
Dangerous and illegally-sold, part-worn tyres are becoming more common in the UK and will be one of the key topics of conversation at this year’s national Trading Standards conference, as TyreSafe has confirmed it will be participating in the event.<\/p>\n
Starting on June 30th at Harrogate International Centre, the event is the biggest gathering of Trading Standards officers and enforcement professionals in the UK and it will attempt to begin the process of making people aware of the part-worn tyres being illegally sold in the UK.<\/p>\n
"Last year's conference was incredibly successful for TyreSafe and we are delighted to announce our return in 2014," said Stuart Jackson, chairman of the road safety group.<\/p>\n
He explained as a result of the 2013 event, many Trading Standards offices across Great Britain have carried out local investigations, many of which have resulted in education initiatives and arrests of unscrupulous sellers.<\/p>\n
As well as manning the stand dedicated to raising awareness of the dangers and issues associated with illegally-sold, part-worn tyres, TyreSafe will also deliver a series of practical demonstrations to provide enforcement officers with a robust and detailed methodology for inspecting rubber to judge its integrity.<\/p>\n
"Our most recent investigation into the sale of part-worn tyres found that 98 per cent were being sold illegally and many of these were putting drivers' lives at great risk. It's therefore imperative that we continue to collaborate with other partners to tackle this dangerous problem," added Mr Jackson.<\/p>\n
