MG has confirmed its latest MG GTS SUV will go on sale in the UK in 2016.<\/p>\n
The new model will first be available for sale in China next May and is expected to compete with other compact SUV vehicles such as the Kia's Sportage, Renault Captur and Honda's CR-V.<\/p>\n
Initial photographs of the new MG GTS SUV reveal it has been styled in a similar way to the existing MG3 supermini and MG 6 family car, with its unique headlamps and slim front grill.<\/p>\n
Shanghai Automotive Industry Corporation (SAIC), MG's parent company, first suggested a MG SVU could be a possibility at the 2013 Shanghai Motor Show.<\/p>\n
The new model is expected to feature a 2.0-litre turbocharged direct-injection petrol engine offering around 217 bhp and 258lb ft, with a six-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission. Forecasts predict it could offer 0-62 mph in close to eight seconds.<\/p>\n
It is expected a diesel option will be added before the car goes on sale in the UK – probably based on the 1.9-litre turbo diesel currently available in the MG6.<\/p>\n
Top of the range versions of the new model are likely to feature a number of safety features, including an on-demand four-wheel drive system and active anti-roll system.<\/p>\n
The MG GTS is set to make its public premiere in the first six months of 2015, possibly at the Shanghai show in April.<\/p>\n
