Road safety and breakdown organisation GEM Motoring Assist has suggested motorists should use their lights during the day to ensure they are as visible as possible.<\/p>\n
There are increasing concerns that some drivers are relying too heavily on automatic light systems or front-only daytime running lights, but they may not be enough if the weather is changeable, especially during the winter months.<\/p>\n
GEM road safety officer Neil Worth explained: “More and more cars now have automatic lighting arrangements. These, combined with front-only daytime running lights, mean it’s easy to assume all your lights are all taken care of without your needing to do anything.<\/p>\n
“However, daytime running lights alone are not sufficient to make you properly visible to oncoming traffic and other road users, especially in foggy or wet conditions. What’s more, you may be displaying no rear lighting at all.”<\/p>\n
The group suggests if visibility is reduced during the day, then drivers should use dipped headlights at all times, as this will ensure rear lights are switched on.<\/p>\n
Motorists are also reminded to make sure they double-check main beams, indicators, sidelights, fog lights and brake lights are all working correctly before setting out.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
