\nIn recent news, Ralf Brandstätter has decided to up the number of planned electric cars that Volkswagen had in the pipeline. He has announced that Volkswagen is aiming for 70% of its cars in Europe to now be electric vehicles by the year 2030. This is double the previous target of 35%.<\/p>\n
This is all part of their new strategy dubbed ‘Accelerate’.<\/p>\n
“We are stepping up the pace. In the coming years, we will change Volkswagen as never before. Now, with ACCELERATE we will give the brand’s digitalization a further push.” – Ralf Brandstätter, CEO of Volkswagen

\nBrandstätter has announced that Volkswagen wants to make autonomous driving widely available and not just reserved for the elites. With its electric project called ‘Trinity’, the German manufacturer will enable level 2+ automated driving while working towards Level 4. The scalable systems platform Trinity will first become available in 2026.<\/p>\n
They also plan to release a new electric vehicle every year. In the first half of 2021, they plan to release the all-wheel-drive ID.4 GTX. This will then be followed by the ID.5 in the second half. China will also be getting its own release of the ID.6\/Cross and this seven seater SUV will launch in Autumn. Plans for the ID.3, an entry level EV, have been moved to 2025. Other releases are a bit further in the future but look to be an ID.5, Aero B and a reimagined Electric version of the classic camper van named the ID.BUZZ.

\nWith all the announcements for electric cars, Brandstätter has stated that all combustion engine models in the fleet will get another successor. While the move to the electric vehicles is great news for the planet, Volkswagen knows that there will need to be a phased approach.<\/p>\n
“We will still need combustion engines for a while, but they should be as efficient as possible, which is why the next generation of our core products – all of which are world models – will also be fitted with the latest generation of plug-in hybrid technology, with an electric range of up to 100 kilometers.” – Ralf Brandstätter, CEO of Volkswagen<\/p>\n
This is great news for Volkswagen fans as they look to future proof their place in the
European market. On top of that, they are also aiming for 50% of the electric car market in the US and China.
