As the mandate to have electric car sales in the UK (28% in 2025) looms over the horizon, the prices of EVs are falling. The technology is becoming more regular and more accessible. We are settled nicely into the electric frontier, and the next year of releases looks to be one of the most anticipated in years. Some models have already landed. Others are waiting in the wings to be met with critical acclaim. Either way, these are the new models and trends to look out for in 2025.<\/p>\n\n\n

The Biggest Names Dropping in 2025<\/h2>\n\n\n

Renault 5<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

The return of an icon. The original Renault 5 is an icon of the 70s and 80s, a defining name in the French automaker\u2019s proud history. To go back to it is not a decision that was taken lightly, and Renault\u2019s engineers have taken great care to honour its legacy while bringing it into the future. This isn\u2019t a remake that spits on the original, either, as the old-school feel is still present underneath the bubbler shape. Inside, you\u2019re welcomed to colours and textures straight from the 70s (as well as, get this, a woven wicker baguette holder inside), but its specs lead the supermini class today, with a range of up to 248 miles. Best of all, it\u2019s coming in at an absolute bargain.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Mini Aceman<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Finally! A new member to the Mini family, one that is replacing the tired Clubman that was begging for a refresh after its 17-year stint. The Mini Aceman is now the smallest SUV in their range, but despite this, it still has room for five as well as 300L of boot space. Inside and out, Mini has gone all-in on retro styling, right down to that gorgeous circular touchscreen infotainment system that gives back a piece of that \u2018Mini\u2019 identity that was lost when it was bought by BMW. The Aceman is the first new Mini model since the Paceman arrived all the way back in 2012. That model didn\u2019t last long, only four years before being discontinued – with its promise, a glowing early reception and one letter thinner, the Aceman looks like it should fare much better.<\/p>\n\n\n

Polestar 5<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

As a dedicated brand in the EV field, Polestar is leading the way for its technological innovation, and its new four-door GT sedan, the Polestar 5, is raising the bar sky-high. Its 350 miles of range is fairly par for the course, but it\u2019s how that electricity is supplied that is drawing attention – Polestar claims a charge-up time of as little as 10 minutes. It looks daring with its headlights which cleverly split the logo up into four quadrants, and inside, the 5 supplies a seismic punch – an eye-watering 884 horsepower. This model is not just an exciting one in and of itself, but a harbinger for the next generation of EVs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

IM Motors L6<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Hot on the heels of an excellent years-long run of buzzed-about EVs, the revived MG Motor UK is launching a more upmarket sister brand, starting with the L6. IM Motors (standing for Intelligence in Motion), the company\u2019s first UK model is a sleek coupe SUV with sculpted wheels, quilted-pattern seats, and an elevated touchscreen dashboard that stretches across the entire dash area. Perhaps its greatest feature is the Proactive Vision Supplement System (PVSS), which displays the world in front of you – including road markings, obstacles, traffic and humans – in a virtual environment reminiscent of a video game minimap.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Dacia Bigster<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

At this year\u2019s Geneva International Motor Show<\/a>, Dacia announced their intention to start rivalling competitors that are slightly more upmarket than where they made their name. It\u2019s a bold move, but then again, the Dacia Bigster isn\u2019t a particularly timid vehicle. Touted in 2021, the hybrid SUV looks almost identical to the concept car – a jagged-edged, imposing hulk of a vehicle that offers 667 litres of boot space and what feels like acres of room for each passenger. The price has shifted, but the quality has increased exponentially.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Cupra Raval<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Initially unveiled as a concept car titled the UrbanRebel, Cupra\u2019s new urban EV is as stylish as it is sporty. Boasting an aggressive stance with chiselled lines that capture that in-your-face character Cupra has mastered so well, it\u2019s expected to offer a competitive range with surprising performance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Abarth 600e<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

The Fiat 600e is the iconic 500 transformed into an electric crossover for the city. Now, Abarth is taking the reigns and souping it up in their usual mad-hat fashion, making it the most powerful car the brand has ever created. It still retains the advantages of being an affordable electric city car, as well as the bubbly silhouette (it wouldn\u2019t be a Fiat 500<\/a> or 600<\/a> without one), but the car has a meaner look with wide synthetic air intakes and a 280bhp motor. It\u2019s hard to top the Abarth 500<\/a>, but that isn\u2019t stopping the tuning house from giving it a fair effort.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Jeep Recon<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Following the roaring success of Jeep\u2019s first EV, the Avenger, the brand is now taking on an even bigger challenge – filling the huge tyres of the fabled Wrangler, one of the most iconic 4x4s of all time. The Jeep Recon nabs its spirit – a rugged, off-road-ready EV built for serious adventures. Taking Jeep\u2019s iconic design cues and modern off-road tech, it\u2019s hoping to tap into the untamed feel of the Wrangler with the eco-conscious power of electric.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Kia EV5<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Kia continues to make waves with its bold approach to electric vehicles, and the EV5 is the latest in its expanding EV line-up. This compact SUV promises the same distinctive design language and tech-forward interior as the acclaimed EV6<\/a>, with an updated aesthetic and interior space to spare. Volkswagen ID.2<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Volkswagen\u2019s ID series is growing with each new numeral, and the ID.2 is here to be affordable electric driving to the masses.
