Ford Mondeo debuts new engine

The latest Ford Mondeo range will feature a brand new high-tech 1.6-litre direct injection turbo petrol Ecoboost engine, offering sporty performance and over 41mpg.

Ford's new 1.6-litre engine will join the 2.0-litre Ecoboost engine which was introduced across Ford's large car range earlier this year.

Kevin Griffin, Ford of Britain fleet director, said: "We've added powertrains which support the lower carbon economy we now live in. The efficient 1.6 Ecoboost in Mondeo is a sporty alternative for petrol advocates who switched to diesel in order to pay less tax."

The new Mondeo has a six-speed manual transmission and is capable of a top speed of 134mph, while returning 41.5mpg and emitting 158g CO2/km.

Ford's 1.6-litre Ecoboost engine uses a combination of turbocharging, direct injection and variable cam timing to reduce fuel consumption and emissions while producing an extra 40PS.

Drivers looking for Ford Mondeo deals will be interested to hear that the new diesel engine with start-stop technology will arrive in the UK in February 2011.
