People looking for efficient Volkswagen deals may wish to check out the VW XL1 Super Efficient Vehicle (SEV), which was unveiled at the Qatar Motor Show.
Advance construction technology, an advanced plug-in hybrid drivetrain and innovative packaging allow the XL1 to return 313mpg on the combined cycle while emitting just 24g/km of CO2.
The XL1 is powered by a 800cc TDI diesel engine developing 48PS, linked to an electric motor producing 27PS, resulting in just 75PS in total.
However, when combined with the vehicle's extremely low weight (795kg) it is more than enough to power the car to an electronically limited top speed of 99mph.
Volkswagen's XL1 features staggered seating with the driver and passenger placed next to each other in a body structure made from advanced new materials providing immense strength yet weighing just 230kg.
Further savings are made through the extensive use of lightweight materials including magnesium, ceramics and aluminium.
Volkswagen recently that its fuel efficient seventh generation Passat will be embarking on a 50-day UK tour.
