Motorists looking for VW deals will be interested to hear that the Volkswagen Golf R has claimed the Hot Hatch of the Year honour at the Top Gear Awards hosted by Jeremy Clarkson, Richard Hammond and James May.
The Volkswagen model triumphed in the hotly-contested category, due to its dynamic ability, powerful charismatic engine and everyday refinement.
When deciding the winner of the Hot Hatch category, the judges found the Golf R to be "extraordinarily good at so many things".
Dr Hendrik Muth, head of marketing and communications at Volkswagen R, who picked up the award, said: "This is the third generation of Golf R and the fastest and most focused yet; we designed it to appeal to keen drivers exactly like the judges at Top Gear."
Powered by a 2.0-litre TSI engine developing 270 PS, the Golf R is equipped with a sophisticated 4MOTION system, allowing it to sprint from a standstill to 62mph in 5.5 seconds when specified with a six-speed DSG gearbox.
The award for the Golf R is not the first time a Volkswagen vehicle has claimed the prize, as the Golf R succeeds the Volkswagen Golf GTI as the Hot Hatch of the Year.
