Vauxhall Ampera win Green Award

Vauxhall's pioneering Ampera has been awarded the Green Award 2012 by Auto Express magazine, adding to its long list of honours.

The plug-in, hybrid vehicle runs entirely on a battery until it drops to a pre-determined threshold, when the fuel engine kicks in. It is also fit with regenerative breaking, which helps to improve electricity generation.

Auto Express granted Vauxhall the Green Award at the New Car Awards in London on June 26th.

"The Ampera is a superb car that debuts technology that will play a huge part in our motoring future," said Steve Fowler, Auto Express editor-in-chief.

"As always, the simple ideas are the best, but putting them into a car and making it work so well, then getting it on sale, is altogether much harder."

Car buyers getting Vauxhall deals for the Ampera can be confident in the quality of their vehicle, now that it has more than 40 awards, including 2012 European Car of the Year and Top Gear's Green Car of the Year.
