A police force in Portugal has become the first in the world to agree a new Nissan deal, which will see them operate a fleet of LEAF electric vehicles.
Under the terms of the deal, eight new zero-emission Nissan LEAF vehicles will be used to patrol the streets.
The cars will be used by Polícia de Segurança Pública (PSP) in a move that is thought to underline the country's commitment to electric vehicles.
Superintendent Paul Gomes Valente, National Director of PSP, said the Nissan LEAF was chosen as part of the force's ambition to reduce its carbon footprint.
"We pride ourselves in being the first police force in the world to incorporate cars with zero-emission technology as part of our 5,000 vehicle fleet," he said.
"We want to continue reducing pollution in large urban centres and the introduction of the 100 per cent electric Nissan LEAF sets a new benchmark for our fleet."
Meanwhile, in the UK, three Nissan LEAFs will be used to ensure that singer Leo the Lion can perform 24 London gigs in 24 hours in order to raise money for The Prince's Trust.
