Ford has launched a new eco-friendly van that matches the fuel-efficiency of a large family car.
The Transit Custom ECOnetic, recently named Van of the Year 2013, includes a number of low CO2 features, including acceleration control – which can reduce fuel consumption by up to 15 per cent – optimised heating and a coolant bypass valve to ensure a quicker warm-up.
Powered by a 100PS version of Ford's 2.2 litre Duratorq diesel engine, the one-tonne van also boasts auto start-stop, which can help to reduce fuel and CO2 emissions by as much as ten per cent.
Fuel consumption from 46.3mpg, eight per cent lower than the previous model, means it is comparable to the likes of Fords' family S-MAX car.
Barb Samardzich, vice president of product development at Ford of Europe, explained that latest Transit Custom fuel-saving technologies will "help businesses keep running costs to a minimum and reduce their carbon footprint".
Available from early next year, the van will be available in short or long wheelbase form and three gross vehicle weight options.
