Kia ‘hopes to be most design-focused manufacturer’

Kia is hoping to successfully continue its efforts to become the most design-focused vehicle manufacturer in Korea.

The carmaker has announced its chief design officer Peter Schreyer has been appointed the group's first non-Korean president – and it is hoped the move will result in the brand carrying on moving in the right direction.

Mr Schreyer has been a key driver behind the design transformation seen at the company in recent years after joining from the Volkswagen Group in 2006.

The expert was charged with the task of heading a new design-led product strategy for the firm and has since received recognition for his Tiger Nose family car aesthetic.

This new appointment might therefore spell good news for those in the market for the best Kia deals who want to be ahead of the game when it comes to the very latest in car design.

Mr Schreyer – who is originally from Bavaria in Germany and studied at the Royal College of Art before turning his attention to the automotive industry – has already commented publicly about his commitment to the Kia cause, as he hopes to lead the way as the manufacturer enters an exciting new period.

A number of new designs have rolled off the production line since the industry figure joined the team six years ago.

These include concept cars and updated products, with the latest Sportage and cee'd family and larger models proving particularly big hits in the Korean market.

From an overseas market perspective, Kia has also seen plenty of success with its Optima, K7 and Quoris designs, while its Picanto and Rio models have remained popular among large numbers of global buyers.

For the year ahead, the manufacturer is planning to release its new Carens vehicle, which is the latest motor to come from the new design philosophy.

This car will be available in the family look – as inspired by Mr Schreyer and his creative influence – as well as becoming the first sporty model to make up part of the cee'd collection.
