Record sales total for Kia

The increasing popularity of Kia among car buyers has been underlined by its record sales performance in 2012.

New figures from the manufacturer have revealed more than 66,000 customers drove away in Kia motors last year, which was markedly more than the 53,615 recorded in the previous 12-month period.

This success meant Kia took a 3.26 per cent share of the UK's new car market in 2012 – significantly greater than 2011's 2.76 per cent share – and suggests increasing numbers are looking for the latest Kia deals.

And the brand is hoping its improving sales figures will continue over the coming 12 months, with Kia identifying 70,000 units as its transaction target for 2013.

Paul Philpott, president and chief executive officer at Kia Motors, said: "A strong product line-up with distinctive design, high levels of quality and our industry-leading seven-year warranty continue to attract new customers to our outstanding dealer network who are consistently delivering excellent service and an ever-improving ownership experience."

Mr Philpott described this performance as excellent and noted it is a step in the right direction as the company looks to reach its goal of being a 100,000 unit a year brand in the UK.

To accommodate the firm's projected growth, Kia has announced a move to a new head office in Walton, Surrey, which is set to take place in 2013's quarter four and should more than double the space currently open to the group at The Heights in Weybridge.

Mr Philpott explained the move, which will see the headquarters re-established four miles from its present location, will facilitate Kia's progression and serve as a more accurate representation of where the group stands in 2013.

"We hope to move to the new building – arranged over three floors – in October," he revealed.

The expert observed work is currently being carried out to decide how the building is to be laid out, with the start of the summer expected to see the beginning of building and installation efforts.
