Citroen has become the first carmaker to fit an insurance black box system as standard for a new vehicle.
The manufacturer announced it will equip its C1 Connexion special edition with the telematics setup in order to help drive down the cost of owning a car for younger motorists.
It is hoped the move will make it easier for these individuals to sign up to suitable insurance and could therefore prove appealing to those looking at the latest Citroen deals.
Trafficmaster is providing the Smartnav system for the cars, which will allow Citroen to offer motorists aged between 19 and 75 free cover for the first year of ownership when the car is funded with Elect 3 or Elect 4 finance.
Young drivers taking advantage of the initiative therefore have the opportunity to get hold of a new Citroen C1 1.0i 68 manual three-door Connexion for just £109 a month, in addition to their deposit on Elect 3 finance.
This comes on top of the free insurance, which is applicable to young drivers subject to two years no claims discount, while heavily discounted protection can also be obtained by drivers with zero or one year's no claims discount when the telematics unit is fitted.
Citroen calculated it will therefore cost a 19-year-old without a no claims discount £950 to protect a new C1 Connexion with Citroen Insurance.
The standard specification Trafficmaster Smartnav comes as standard specification on both of the versions of the C1 Connexion.
Production of the C1 Connexion special editions has been increased by Citroen in an effort to meet high sales demand, with an additional 750 models set to come off the production line.
A new body colour in the form of Carlinite Grey has now been made available, adding to the choice offered through the Scarlet Red edition.
This car was produced in collaboration with Facebook and features a number of characterful design cues such as red door mirrors, speedometer trim, centre console, air vents and door handles.
