Mazda6 triumphs at Fleet News Awards

The Mazda6 has been recognised at the Fleet News Awards, with it being named the winner of the Best Upper Medium category.

Held in London, the awards ceremony saw the Mazda model defeat competition from Ford, Hyundai, VW and Vauxhall to pick up the accolade.

The car received special praise for its SkyActiv technology, which enables the delivery of highly efficient petrol and diesel engines, while its guarantee of an excellent driving experience was also heralded.

According to the judging panel, the Mazda6 was selected as the winner of its category due to its combination of power and efficiency – and the use of lightweight materials and the re-engineering of the drivetrain have resulted in particularly promising advancements.

The judges claimed the car is well-equipped and exceptional to drive, also noting that both business drivers and fleet managers are likely to be attracted by the motor's low CO2 emissions.

Steve Tomlinson, head of fleet at Mazda, collected the award and said: "It is with great pleasure that we accept this accolade for the Mazda6.

"Thanks to Mazda's breakthrough SKYACTIV technology, engineers have been able to deliver class-leading environmental credentials without resorting to the smaller engine displacements of some rivals."

Mr Tomlinson added the vehicle enables company car drivers to enjoy the best in diesel performance, as well as benefitting from improved fuel economy and reduced emissions.

Those looking at the latest Mazda deals in order to get hold of a car that combines performance and efficiency may well be drawn to the qualities of the Mazda6.

Launched in January this year, the vehicle's CO2 emissions remain low, which has been identified by the manufacturer as an important factor when it comes to keeping on top of its operating costs and car-related taxes.

The news comes after Sir Chris Hoy and numerous other famous faces recently took to the wheel of Mazda6's as they participated in the inaugural Mazda6 Celebrity Challenge, which was held in Melbourne, Australia.
