Vauxhall's Ampera model is being used by UK construction company the Eric Wright Group as part of a four-year test case.
The decision to trial the car has been made with a view to the results possibly influencing the future makeup of the firm's fleet.
Steve Openshaw, plant manager for the civil engineering group's Site Support Department, will be driving the vehicle over the next four years to see what benefits the company can expect should it decide to go with the Vauxhall Ampera.
It is hoped that the car will be successful in reducing the fleet's annual CO2 usage, as well as driving down its fuel consumption.
Those looking at the latest Vauxhall deals may therefore be particularly interested to learn the results of the trial period.
The Ampera boasts new groundbreaking technology in the form of the Extended-Range Electric Vehicle system – and it is hoped that this setup will play a key role in helping the car to meet all of its CO2 and fuel goals.
Mr Openshaw will use the auto as he performs his daily duties and it is anticipated that the vehicle will travel more than 70,000 miles during the four-year period.
To make the transition as easy as possible – while also eliminating the risk of Mr Openshaw experiencing any range anxiety – electric vehicle charging points have been installed at the plant manager's office and home.
He stated: "As a large construction group we are committed to reducing the effect we have on the environment. I am delighted with the car and look forward to seeing the environmental and financial benefit of running an electric vehicle as a day-to-day company car.
"The company directors have also trialled the vehicle and were impressed that it operates just like a normal car."
Another motorist set to enjoy the benefits of the Ampera is Everton and England footballer Phil Jagielka, who recently took delivery of a brand new Ampera Electron in Power Blue.
