Limited edition Ford EcoSport launched through Facebook

Reservations for the new limited edition Ford EcoSport are being taken via Facebook.

Ford is turning to the world of social media to help kick-start sales of its new small smart utility vehicle (SUV), the EcoSport. The manufacturer announced at technology show IFA 2013 that reservations for a new limited edition version of the model will be taken through Facebook, with just 500 of these being made available across Europe.

UK drivers in the market for new car offers can head to the popular social networking portal to get their hands on one of the 120 models available to buyers in the nation. This updated version differs from the original thanks to a number of special features.

These include the Ford SYNC AppLink system – a setup that drivers can use to control smartphone apps with just the sound of their voice – as well as 17-inch alloy wheels and leather trim.

Roelant de Waard, vice-president of marketing , sales and service at Ford of Europe, said: "EcoSport will be like nothing else on the road in Europe – a rugged-looking, affordable and surprisingly spacious SUV with the truly innovative SYNC AppLink technology, which allows drivers to voice-control all kinds of great apps like Spotify and Audioteka.

"EcoSport appeals to a younger, more connected generation so it's fitting we are offering the EcoSport limited edition for sale through Facebook."

Those who purchase this model of the Ford EcoSport can look forward to making the most of the SYNC AppLink system over the coming months, as the carmaker is expected to announce a raft of special bundle apps from its partners for the vehicle – such as a year of unlimited audio books from Audioteka that can be downloaded straight to the car.

They can also make the most of a vehicle boasting the fuel efficiency of a small family motor, but one that boasts greater flexibility and has a high-command driving position to ensure the owner remains comfortable behind the wheel. In addition to the limited edition of the motor, Titanium editions will arrive in the UK next year during the spring.
