Nissan Leaf passes 100,000 deliveries worldwide

A huge number of buyers have been tempted to seek out Nissan deals thanks to the benefits of the eco-friendly Leaf model in the last three years.

This week, new figures from the manufacturer have shed light on the extent of the success the Leaf has enjoyed. Nissan has announced that it has made its 100,000th delivery of the electric vehicle, with the buyer being Brett Garner, a Briton based in Hampshire.

So far, the Leaf has been a considerable success, proving to be the most popular electric car in the world. Aside from its emission-free drivetrain, other benefits of the model include its smartphone interconnectivity and various advanced features.

To celebrate the latest achievement, Nissan has produced a unique version of the car that comes decorated with 50,000 two pence pieces from the UK and 50,000 two cent Euro coins from the continent.

These coins represent the low running expenses associated of the Leaf, which can be operated at just 2p per mile, or less than €0.02 per kilometre.

People can see the coin-covered Leaf on display at Martins of Winchester, the Nissan dealer that sold the actual 100,000th car to Mr Garner.

Guillaume Cartier, senior vice-president for sales and marketing at Nissan Europe, said the popularity of the car is likely to grow even more as electric vehicles become an increasingly viable mainstream technology.

He said: "Don't forget that when Nissan Leaf was launched in 2010, the charging infrastructure was in its infancy.

"But that didn't deter the pioneers who immediately appreciated the benefits of a purpose-designed electric vehicle. Three years on, many are already on their second Nissan Leaf."

This comes after the manufacturer racked up its 3,000th Nissan leaf sale in the UK last month, confirming its position as the most successful brand of electric car in Britain. Demand for the vehicle has been stimulated by the launch of the improved second-generation model last May.
