Off the back of resounding success with its previous models, Renault has added more models to its growing sports range with the GT 220 versions of the Megane Hatch, Coupe and Sport Tourer.
The new look gives plenty of power thanks to the 220 hp version of the Renault Sport 2.0-litre turbo engine, while the firm's sport-engineered chassis and 18-inch Serdard alloy wheels finish off these entry-level models.
The GT 220 is based on the Megane GT Line TomTom, but delivers up to twice as much horsepower, while it also brings a much more dynamic drive. This is down to a number of innovative features, including stiffer springs and dampers and larger front brake discs from Renault Sport.
Its 2.0-litre 16-valve turbocharged engine gives out 4,750 rpm and is complemented by a slick-shifting six-speed manual transmission. With 340 Nm of torque at 2,400 rpm at the driver's disposal, the GT 220 can accelerate from 0-62 mph in just 7.6 seconds. And with a top speed of 149 mph, there is no doubt the latest Renault offering packs plenty of power.
However, as well as boasting Renault's iconic Stop & Start technology as standard, the GT 220 is incredibly economical and efficient, delivering 38.7 mpg and emissions of just 169 g/km.
The GT 220 also features specific front and rear dampers that use the calibration and valving more recently seen on the Megane Renault Sport.
From its more powerful sibling, the GT 220 also uses the same rear bump stops. However, the steering calibration is slightly different to the mainstream Megane, allowing the GT 220 versions' specific tyres and chassis settings to reach their full potential.
Attention to detail is a top priority for the GT 220, with specification and colour choices offering bespoke options in the Malta Blue paintwork with anthracite grey and polished detailing, while some of the vehicle's other features offer personalisation.
