The next generation of the BMW 1 Series will feature front-wheel drive for the first time, according to industry reports.
Due to go on sale in the UK at some point in 2019, the third-generation BMW Series 1 will have a similar external look to the current model, but will undergo a number of changes under the hood.
One of the biggest changes is expected to be the move away from rear-wheel drive in a bid to improve efficiency and practicality for owners. The removal of the current system will mean increased luggage space, as well as a more comfortable space for passengers travelling in the rear of the car.
It is also expected the shift towards front-wheel drive will also be expanded by BMW to include its Series 2 coupe and convertible models over the next few years.
There have also been suggestions that BMW is planning an electric or hybrid version of the popular 1 Series, possibly powered in the same way as the Mini Countryman Cooper E.
